Update: Now I’m Not a Presidential Candidate or Anything…

So it’s been about a week, and still not a peep from Clinton or Obama.  Nothing about the recent, disastrous earthquake in China either.  It just worries me that these candidates, who bicker incessantly over which is more qualified to address issues of foreign policy, are so oblivious to incredibly horrible things happening around the globe.

I also need to make a brief correction: this past weekend, John McCain made comments (eek!) about the situation in Myanmar.  He called for the government to open access to aid, as well as for China and surrounding nations to extend some help.  Props to the Senator for acknowledging that Myanmar exists, and that they’re in trouble.

I just always thought that we, as Americans, were especially adept at recognizing humanitarian crises and being among the first to act.  Hopefully one of these candidates will restore that empathy to the Oval Office.
